Why Polo?

  • The sport of polo has a history at the U of U dating back to 1926 when Captain Winfred C. Green lead a team of Utes during matches against Stanford, USC, and the University of Arizona, among others.
  • The Utah squad was one of only a handful of intercollegiate teams, but they proved to be the envy of all the others with their sterling team of horses, courtesy of the R.O.T.C. and Fort Douglas.
  • Years later, the polo team eventually disbanded, and polo has since been a faint memory at the U, and the state of Utah as a whole.
  • On June 25, the College of Pharmacy will continue the tradition of world class polo in Utah by offering yet another opportunity to take part in the “Sport of Kings.”

Champagne Brunch

  • A polo match and a champagne brunch traditionally go hand in hand. As part of the fundraiser, guests are invited to purchase champagne brunch tickets in advance for $150 each with proceeds benefiting the U of U College of Pharmacy. For brunch tickets, call 801-581-5660 or 801-581-8704.
  • The champagne brunch will begin at11:30 a.m. under a designated tent at the polo field prior to the polo match at 1 p.m. Catering will be provided by Culinary Crafts and menu items include pan-seared maple-glazed salmon, a seafood bar, Spanish-style chicken paillard, and a full desert bar.

About the Skaggs Pharmacy Institute

  • Ranked consistently as one of the top four pharmacy colleges in the nation, the U of U College of Pharmacy has outgrown its current home, the 45-year-old L.S. Skaggs Hall. Faculty, staff, and students are currently dispersed across six buildings on campus, but upon its completion, the L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Institute will once again bring everyone back together under one roof.
  • In 1965, L.S. Skaggs’ generous donations allowed the College of Pharmacy to open its current building, which was named after his father. In 2006, The ALSAM Foundation, on behalf of Mr. Skaggs, placed a gift to help construct an updated research facility to be known as the L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Institute.
  • The U of U College of Pharmacy broke ground on the new L.S. Skaggs Pharmacy Institute last August and construction continues, but the building and the College itself still need support to continue bringing new medicines to those who are in greatest need. The new building will be home to the best and brightest in pharmacy research and education, with intentions of the U of U College of Pharmacy becoming the No. 1 pharmacy school in the nation.

Gates open at 11:00 am.  For more information or tickets call 801-581-5660 or visit their website www.pharmacycup.com.
