The 2007-2008 WCT season included 6 WCT Qualifier Tournaments held from Texas to Florida, qualifying 55 women to play in the WCT Finals 2008. The Lexington Polo Club started the season off with a WCT Qualifier in August of 2007. The tournament winner was WAR HORSE with Dana Aschinger KY, Cathy Brown TN, Alison Henderson FL and Cecelia Cochran HI. Most Valuable Player was awarded to Alison Henderson and Best Playing Pony went to “Africa”, owned by Jackie Bernard and played by Lesley Fong Yee.
302 Polo Club in Aiken, South Carolina was host to the next WCT Qualifier in September of 2007. Four strong teams took to the field with NEW BRIDGE coming out on top with the team of Pam Gleason SC, Clarrissa Echezeretta TX, Alina Carta FL and Abby Riggs of CA.
In November 2007 the Houston Polo Club hosted the largest of the WCT Qualifiers with six teams and players attending from all over including CA, CO, SC, GA, IN, MD, Jamaica and Zimbabwe. PEGASUS topped the tough field, winning the Qualifier with Anne Andras TX, Shelia Lequerica TX, Kate Weber CA and Lesley Fong Yee of Jamaica. Kate Weber won the Most Valuable Player honor and the Best Playing Pony was “Dakota” owned and played by Jolie Liston.
Sarasota Polo Club joined in, hosting the fourth Qualifier in January of 2008. WAR HORSE was crowned for the second time in the 2007-2008 WCT season, with Alison Henderson FL, Therese Volmer AZ, Jolie Liston GA and Dana Aschinger from KY .
The Port Mayaca Polo Club in its first year with the WCT hosted the February 2008 Qualifier. NORTHWOOD won, with Ashley Schiff FL, Annabel Begg, Sunny Hale OK and Nicole Offen of FL. An American Polo Horse Association Best Playing Pony honor went to “Bessy” owned and played by Ashley Schiff.
Culminating an eight month season, the International Polo Club hosted the final WCT Qualifier for the 2007-2008 season in March of 2008. POLO GEAR took the last winner spot with Kelly Leach, Kristin Dalton, Angela York FL and Gillian Johnston WY/FL.
The WCT Finals 2008 has attracted an international field of the top women players from Jamaica, Zimbabwe and England as well as the best of the USA.
