Santa Barbara Polo Club
May 26, 2015

It was a beautiful weekend at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club! The pro pool league welcomed two new players this weekend, father and son duo, Andrew and Bayne Bossom. The winners of the pro pool took home a new pair of spurs and great memories. The afternoon games were exciting and hard fought. The Antelope polo team was looking to bring home a victory after coming up short in the first 12-goal tournament, and had a little extra motivation after seeing the 12-goal trophies, Apple Watches!

Pope Challenge Final

With an undefeated record in the previous weeks, Antelope easily advanced to the final of the Pope Challenge, facing off against Klentner Ranch who secured their spot with an important win over Hawk Hill on Friday.  It was evident the game would be a battle as the first ball was thrown in. Each team scored two penalties and a field goal in the first chukker, but the handicap goal given to Klentner Ranch put them on top at the end of the first chukker. Play was fast and furious, with each goal answered by a score from the opposing team. The score remained tied at the end of the second and third chukker, 6-6 and 9-9 respectively.

Trotz

Antelope pulled ahead in the 4th chukker as Uretz added two goals aboard his Best Playing Pony, “Collette.” Vercellino raced to score two more goals in the chukker to pull his team up by four goals. Klentner Ranch was unable to close the gap, and Antelope raised their tally to win by five goals, 17-12.

Patrick Uretz was presented the Most Valuable Player award and his horse, “Collette” was named Best Playing Pony.
