Two teams were victims as they looked like they were going to get it done, but in the end it was just an April Fools idea. In the 3rd game of the US Open it was Audi vs. Blackwatch. Audi was showing unusal power for about 5 chukkers and then a little fella named Pablo MacDonough showed up and did his dance. It was adios Audi as Cars do not seem to be in this year in Polo. Blackwatch goes to 1 & 0 and Audi the opposite 0 & 1.
In game two it was the Orchards, as in Orchard Hill vs. Crab Orchard. Orchard Hill was just winning most of the day. In the 5th it was a big 8 to 5 lead for Orchard Hill. Then Aldoflo Cambiaso (Crab Orchard) and Baking Blake (Jeff Blake) went to work and tied it up in about 4 minutes. It was close there for a while, but it was Orchard Hill taking the lead 9-8 in the 5th. Then the 6th brought an end to the April day as Crab Orchard came out and scored the next 4 goals and then to save face Orchard Hill did recover 2 in the end. Crab Orchard sent a message that they are still in town and they are still the defending champions. Crab Orchard goes to 1 & 0 and Orchard Hills falls to 0 & 1.
Wednesday brings the end of round 1 as two more games come to town. La Monjitas takes on Lechuza Caracas and Pony Express and White Birch get it on. There is lots of action down South. In one day you can usually see 4 to 8 of the best players in the World and without a doubt as many superstar horses. Its common to see 8 horses in one chukker worth 800 grand the cost of 4 teams horses out West. This is another World! Why I will never know, but money does make the difference. There are 600 people at a weekday game, 30 grooms, 8 players, 3 trainers, vets, tents, green grass clean whites and what’s the difference? Just 3000 miles. See ya.
