VILLA del LAGO IS VICTORIOUS IN CIPC AUGUST LEAGUE
By Karen Martino

Villa del Lago swept through the Chicago International Polo Club’s 6-goal August League, winning every preliminary match and defeating Harter Road 9-3 in the finals. The final match was played Sunday, August 31, at the Oak Brook Polo Grounds.

Jim Zenni; his 13-year-old son, Jared; and brothers Augustin and Rafael Obregon played a consistent match, playing good defense, accurately passing the ball and holding their opponents to only two goals (Harter Road received one goal on handicap). Jared Zenni was top scorer with four goals; Augustin Obregon added three, and Rafael Obregon scored two.

The Harter Road foursome – John Yavari, Jim Tolbert, Gonzalo Teves and Douglas Giebel – played a valiant match, barely missing several opportunities to score, but the cohesive play of Villa del Lago proved to be too tough. Teves scored Harter Road’s two goals, one from the field and one on a penalty conversion.

The MVP award went to Augustin Obregon, and Gonzalo Teves’ 8-year-old American Thoroughbred mare, Pardon Me, received Best Playing Pony honors. Trophies were presented by Oak Brook Polo social member and box holder, Diane Radic.
