The Polo School (Lucas Escobar, Christian Weisz, Juanse Olivera and Nico Escobar) and Grand Champions-Open (Santos Bollini, Grant Ganzi and Matias Gonzalez) impressed a small but enthusiastic crowd Saturday morning when the Grand Champions Polo club presented two USPA South Florida Interscholastic matches at the Polo West Arena in Wellington.
In the opening four chukker match of the day Christian Weisz scored the first two goals of the day on penalty shots while Palm Beach Polo (Benji Daniels, Landon Daniels and Justin Daniels) was held scoreless and trailed 2-0.
Juanse Olivera added the first two goals of the second period followed by a goal from teammate Nico Escobar for a 5-0 lead. Landon Daniels finally got Palm Beach Polo on the scoreboard but it was The Polo School with the commanding 5-1 halftime lead.
The Polo School blew it open in the third chukker. Christian Weisz scored his third and fourth goals of the game as The Polo School extended their lead to six goals, 7-1. A goal was awarded to The Polo School on a Penalty 1 and a goal from Nico Escobar had The Polo School riding an eight goal lead, 9-1. Goals from Justin Daniels and Landon Daniels ended the chukker with Palm Beach Polo trailing by six goals going into the final period of the game.
Nico Escobar scored his second goal of the day to open the scoring in the fourth chukker, 10-3. Juanse Olivera added two more goals while The Polo School’s defense shut Palm Beach Polo out for the second time on the day in the 12-3 victory.
Christian Weisz and Juanse Olivera scored four goals apiece. Nico Escobar was credited with three goals in the win. Landon Daniels scored twice for Palm Beach Polo. Justin Daniels scored once in the loss.
Grand Champions Open 15, Grand Champions Girls 2
A talented and experienced Grand Champions Open team put it all together as they wailed on the Grand Champions Girls (Alyssa Tranchilla, Riley Ganzi and Rachel Kelly) in a 15-2 beat down.
Santos Bollini and Matias Gonzalez scored two goals apiece in the opening chukker while the Grand Champions Girls struggled to find a rhythm.
Matias Gonzales opened the second chukker with his third goal of the day, 5-0, when riley Ganzi responded with a goal and a spark of offense for the Grand Champions Girls, 5-1Two more goals from Grant Ganzi (Riley’s older brother) ended the first half of play with the Grand Champions Open team dominating the game, 7-1.
Grant Ganzi scored the first two goals of the second half, 9-1. Single goals from Santos Bollini and Matias Gonzalez had them on top of an 11-1 score. Riley Ganzi scored the final goal of the chukker but the Grand Champions Girls fell behind by nine goals, 11-2 with one chukker remaining in the game.
The Grand Champions Open team continued to roll in the fourth chukker. Three more goals from Santos Bollini and a goal from Grant Ganzi went unanswered as the boys played well on both sides of the ball. When the final horn was sounded the Grand Champions Open team found themselves on the winning end of an impressive 15-2 score.
Santos Bollini led all scoring on the day with six goals. Grant Ganzi scored five times and Matias Gonzalez added four goals for the win. Riley Ganzi accounted for both of the Grand Champions Girls goals.
