The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder
It maybe a 100 years old and it may have been a 100 years since it was this cold, but there is no doubt that there has never been a player on these fields like Mr Cambiaso during the 100 year history of Santa Barbara Polo Club.
It is a double title thus far and it is almost doubling the score of his rivals. Adolfo Cambiaso is making double the crowds by just being here. Even though the games do not seem to be too close, Adolfo Cambiaso makes his players play great and he is just fun to watch. It is comparable to watching Fedder, Tiger or Jordan. These athletes are just far better than their peers.
In a great cool but Sunny afternoon it started hard as Jason Crowder lit up the board early with a couple of great runs. Then Adolfo Cambiasot took over with huge support from Andres Weisz, John Muse and Jason Crowder who delivered big passes and tough defense. Lucchese got out to a 3 to 1 lead at the end of the first chukker. The second chukker was a war as Carlos and Memo Gracida fought hard and tied the chukker with a lot of help from the big man, Tom Barrack, who fought off a throbbing broken left hand, but just kept on ticking. They also tied the 3rd as it was a very fast chukker with some wonderful plays by both teams.
As the big crowd stomped the diviots and sipped champagne Lucchese and Piocho were separated by only two, which they had won the first by 2, but then the 4th it is a new game. Here comes the boys from the Boot Town and they started walking away with a four to one chukker. It seemed like it might be over and it really was. They continued to run some and won the 5th chukker 2 to 1 and then relaxed as Piocho won the final chukker after the score was doubled for a brief time.
Lucchese defeated Piocho Ranch 15-10.
It makes the Boot Co. of Lucchese champs of their own tournament and now all eyes turn to the Pacific Coast Open. How do you stop these BOOTS FROM WALKING ALL OVER US ?
CONGRATULATIONS
