The Empire Polo Club’s Out with the Old and in with the New tournament fielded six teams in Indio California in club competition that saw Camano Island (Cameron Smith, Hayward Purdue, Lolo Payan and Jared Smith) down Parklane (Doug Schneider, Bill Garlock, Ashton Wolf and Remy Muller) 7-6.  Rogue (Fred Schneeberger, Cameron Diggon, Lolo Payan and Goyo Mariscal) beat Brumby Farm (Jake Brumby, Natalie Brumby, Chris Brumby and Kimo Huddleston) in a 7-5 contest while Wrightway (Pat Shanahan, Tom Shannahan, Erik Wright and Tim Rudy) crushed Angel Rae Glass (Shane flock, Roxy Keyfauver, Charlie Thieriot and Ernesto Bautista) 11-2.

The day began with a 10 am game that saw Camano Island jump out to a 4-2 lead after the opening chukker with each member of the team scoring a goal with Remy Muller scoring both opening goals for Parklane.

Second chukker goals from Cameron Smith, Lolo Payan and Jared Smith had Camano Island sitting on a 7-3 halftime lead, with Ashton Wolf scoring the lone goal of the period for Parklane.

Wolf scored two unanswered goals in the third and added a third goal in the fourth chukker as Camino Island held on for a 7-6 win.

Wolf led all scoring with four goals.  Muller added two goals in the loss.

Cameron Smith, Jared smith and Payan scored two goals apiece for Camano Island.  Pardue added a single goal for the win.

ROGUE 7, BRUMBY FARM 5

Rogue outscored Brumby Farm 3-1 in the opening seven minutes of play on goals from Cameron Diggon, Lolo Payan and Goyo Mariscal.  Natalie Brumby scored once from the field for her team’s only goal.

A determined Brumby Farm defense held Rogue scoreless in the second, picking up a single goal from Kimo Huddleston, but trailed 3-2 at the end of the first half.

Huddleston tied it up at 3-3 with the first goal of the fourth period, but Rogue stormed back, picking up two goals from Payan for a 5-3 advantage with once chukker left to play.

Huddleston scored consecutive goals in the fourth, knotting it up at 5-5, but Rogue bounced back with a pair of goals from Payan to carry the day in a 7-5 victory.

Payan set the pace in the game with five goals.  Teammates Diggon and Mariscal scored single goals in the win.

Huddleston scored four times for Brumby Farm.  Natalie Brumby added a goal in a losing effort.

WRIGHTWAY 11, ANGEL RAE GLASS 2

Angel Rae glass received one goal by handicap but watched helpless as Wrightway scored three straight goals in the opening chukker of play for the early 3-1 advantage. Erik Wright opened the scoring with a goal followed by single scores from Tom Shannahan and Tim Ruby.

Ernesto Bautista gave Angel Rae Glass a bit of hope with the first goal of the second chukker, but that would prove to be the last offense put out by the struggling foursome.  Wright scored the only goal of the chukker for the 4-1 halftime lead.

Three more goals from Wright highlighted the third period, with Rudy adding a single goal, and Wrightway found themselves on top of an 8-2 score with Angel Rae glass struggling to find an answer.

Wright added two more goals in the fourth with Pat Shannahan’s first goal of the day closing out the scoring in an 11-2 romp.

Wright led all scoring on the day with seven goals.  Rudy scored twice with Pat Shannahan and Tom Shanahan chipping in single goals for the victory.

Bautista accounted for Angel Rae Glass’s only goal from the field.  The team received one goal by handicap.
