Jim Zenni scored the opening goal of the game for Villa Del Lago Sunday afternoon in the International Polo Club’s Freebooters Classic 14-goal competition, but it was countered by a 60-yard penalty goal from Faraway’s Tomas Obregon.  The first chukker ended in a 1-1 draw.

Faraway opened up its attack in the second picking up a pair of goals from Tomas Obregon (one from the field and one on a penalty conversion) and a single goal from the field from Juan Valerdi.  Villa Del Lago managed a single goal from Marianito Obregon, falling behind 4-2.

Julian Daniels managed to score is first goal of the day, sandwiched between two 40-yard penalty goals from Marianito Obregon.  Villa Del Lago cut the Faraway lead down to a single goal, 5-4 at the end of the first half.

Marianito Obregon and Jim Zenni added two single goals in the fourth to tie and then take the lead, 6-5, but Faraway galloped back.  A goal from Daniels was complimented by a goal from teammate Valerdi and Faraway found themselves back on top of 7-6 score.

Valerdi opened the scoring in the fifth period with a penalty goal, 8-6, but Villa Del Lago wasn’t going to let the game get away from them.  Matias Obregon scored his first goal of the match to keep them close.  The chukker ended with Faraway defending a narrow 8-7 lead.

Tomas Obregon opened the sixth chukker with a 60-yard penalty goal, 9-7, but Marianito Obregon answered with a goal from the field for Villa Del Lago, 9-8.   Jared Zenni’s first goal of the game tied it up at 9-9, but it was Tomas Obregon who would score the winning goal for Faraway on a 40-yard penalty conversion.

Tomas Obregon scored five times for Faraway.  Valerdi added three goals and Daniels accounted for two goals.

Marianito Obregon led the Villa Del Lago attack with five goals.  Jim Zenni scored twice.  Jared Zenni and Matias Obregon added single goals in the game.

Faraway improved its record to 2-1 after the win.  Villa Del Lago fell to 0-2.
