The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder

South America could probably do without any sauerkraut for a while. Germany became the first team ever to come from Europe and win the World Cup in the Americas … in Central, North or South America. Argentina does not have to hide like Brazil, but they could not stop them either. It was a great game and I do not know anything about soccer or as they call it “Football ,”but it was fun to watch.

On the polo side of sports …. it was Zacara losing two in a row as there 20 + winning streak came to a ugly loss as they are eliminated from the Gold Cup in the UK in the Quarters. Cambiaso continues to move froward. Part-time Santa Barbara resident John Muse and Lucchese are headed to the semis on Wed. against another Pieres as in Gonzalo 2. At least one Pieres will be in the finals. Nicholas or Gonzalo 2.

As the UK winds down more players head to Santa Barbara Polo Club this week. Sapo Casset should be here soon and the Merlos’ are here … at least Sebe is.  A few other big sticks include Jeff Hall, Lucas Criado and Inaki Laprida. I have not seen Paco, but heard he is here. So it is just about time to see the good ones. We only have four teams, but they are good ones and it should be very competitive.

Over in France in  St. Moritz, Geoff Palmer and Antelope won the first big polo tournament.  Well done Mr Palmer!
Here in Santa Barbara the 8-goal is also going on.    Klenter Ranch stopped Carole and Antone of Edilweiss in the finals at 3 pm. Bad news, but all seems to be well moving forward … Justin Klentner, a fairly large man, was struck in the head by a horse yesterday as he was helping get his son unhung from a stirrup. He was advised not to compete today, but they still held on for the trophy.

Santa Barbara is still headed to drop their high-goal tournaments down to 16- goal next summer. It looks like 6 teams are already committed, so this indicates some progress. All we need are more local California players/patrons to join in this league. It would be great if we could recruit Los Banditos from up North and maybe TriTech from down South and Mr. Hammond.  It would also be a great fit, maybe even the Mighty Empire would be a fit and Dark Horse and Madeline Cobbs Menlo orginzation. Let’s make California Polo grow. We have more fields than teams and the best weather in the world. CALL PHIL 561 307 0275 AND GET A SLOT THEY WILL BE GONE SOON.
