apr_26_photo_1SUNDAY, APRIL 26, 2009 –  The polo fans were finally back in the stands in Houston, as Governor’s Cup 4-goal action kicked off the Spring season at the Houston Polo Club on April 26, 2009. Momentum Audi’s Jared Lang was on hand to throw the ball in for the first feature match of BAD Company vs. 7 Bar W.

BAD Company’s Juan Cruz (3), Agustin Arrayago (2), and siblings Brooks Armour Diesel (0) and Laurance Armour (-1) fell 5-3 to 7 Bar W’s Sergio Silvestre (3), Sheila Lequerica (1), Sarah Prinsloo (0) and Jeff Wood (0), securing 1st place in their bracket for 7 Bar W.  After a half-time wine tasting at mid-field, Vivace/Sirius battled Spindletop/Shamrock for first place in the second Governor’s Cup bracket. Jenny Sharrock & Colleen Williams (-1, split position), Daren Livingston (1), Brian Middleton (3), and George Georgiades (0) of Spindletop/Shamrock lost in a dramatic OT showdown to Vivace/Sirius’ Mason Wroe (3), Steve Krueger (2), Trey Malecheck (0), and Rebecca Bollenbach (-1). Mason Wroe scored the final goal from the field to end the overtime & win the game by 7-6 for Vivace/Sirius. Both of the winning teams were awarded Oakley sports eyewear.

Sunday’s games, along with Wednesday’s and Friday’s elimination matches, finalized the standings for the eight teams competing in both brackets of the tournament.  The first and second place overall winners of the Houston Governor’s Cup will be determined on Tuesday, April 29, before the tournament gives way to official start of the 4 and 8 goal Spring leagues.  HPC’s next Sunday afternoon match on May 3 will feature 2 teams from the season’s first 8-goal tournament.
