Persistent rain and wet grounds led to the postponement of the opening round of the 2010 Joe Barry Memorial Cup Saturday afternoon at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in the club’s second week of high-goal tournament play.

A revised schedule will have a noon Joe Barry Memorial Cup game between the Hawks (Julian Mannix, Cachi Garcia, Mariano Aguerre, Fred Mannix, Jr.) and Lechuza Caracas (Victor Vargas, Guille Aguero, Nicolas Espain, Santiago Torres).

The feature match of the day remains the finals of the 2010 Iglehart Cup between defending champion Patagones (Gonzalo Avendano, Julio Gracida, Carlos Gracida, Carlos Avendano) and EFG Bank (Jim Whisenand, Andres Weisz, Pancho Bensadon, Luis Escobar) and will begin promptly at 3 pm.

Patagones received a first round bye, and then The Wanderers/Isla Carroll 15-14 in its first game.   EFG Bank scored two consecutive victories, defeating Zacara 13-11 and the Hawks 14-12.   EFG Bank also enters the finals with two of the tournament’s top scorers in Pancho Bensadon (13 goals in two matches), and Luis Escobar (who scored 11 goals in their last two outings).

The balanced attack of the Patagones, however, relied on scoring contributions from every one of its members in its sole win.

Two more Joe Barry Memorial Cup games that were slated for weekend play have been moved to Monday, January 11 with an 11 am game between Mt. Brilliant (Bo Goodman, Francisco Irastorza, Santiago Chavanne, Chris Nevins) and The Wanderers/Isla Carroll (Kris Kampsen, Sugar Erskine, Nacho Figueras, John Goodman) and a 3 pm contest featuring Faraway Farms (Hutton Goodman, Julian Daniels, Julio Arellano, Pelon Escapite) and Bendabout (Gillian Johnston, Ulysses Escapite, Nick Roldan, Owen Rinehart).
