Two games were played today in the East Coast Open. In the morning Cinque Terre edged Endeavour, 12-11. the afternoon game saw White Birch defeat Polo Do, 14-9.

The morning contest was closely fought. Tied 4-4 after two chukkers, Cinque Terre went ahead 6-4 in the third chukker on a penalty conversion by Magoo Laprida, and a field goal by Chino Fraysinnet. Both teams scored twice in the fourth chukker, thus Cinque Terre led 8-6 entering the fifth chukker. This was to be Endeavour’s best chukker as they outscored their opponents 4-0. Pancho Bensadon had a field goal, and converted a technical, and both Chris Brant and Naco Taverna scored a goal from the field. Early in the final chukker Bensadon made a field goal, and Endeavour was up 11-8.

Then the momenteum changed, as every player on Cinque Terre came alive on offense. LaPrida made a field goal, and was soon followed by Chino Fraysinnet putting it between the posts. Andres Weisz followed with a field goal to tie it at 11-11. Then in the final minute LaPrida shot in the game winner.

Bensadon was the match’s high scorer with eight, four in each half, while LaPrida led the victors with five goals, four of them from the field.

After one chukker White Birch and Polo Do were tied 2-2. Then White Birch put on one of its trademark spurts, outscoring their opponents 4-0 in the second chukker, all on field goals. Mariano Aguerre had two, with Martin Donovan and the impressive young Santiago Torres scoring once each.

It was a long afternoon for Polo Do. The White Birch horses outraced them, the men in green and white were seemingly always there on defense, and Polo Do had some bad luck. An example came on a penalty shot, which was rolling straight in, and then took a small but unfortunate bounce for them, and hit the goal post.
Guille Aguero, who did a nice defensive job for Polo Do was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. Minina, played by Aguerre in the second chukker was named Best Playing Pony.
