Calgary, Alberta (July 5, 2007) – Before Thursday’s game three in the J Vair Anderson Cup  between John Rooney’s Tusk Energy and Fred H. Mannix’s Millarville, some things were given. For Tusk, Rooney would give his usual strong effort and Joe Henderson would be Joe Henderson – steady and strong. For Millarville, Mannix would impress and Daniel Roenisch would provide support.

What was not expected, however, was an impressive Calgary debut by Todd Martineau for Tusk in defeating Millarville by a score of 12 – 10. Bottom line was that no one in the Calgary area had even heard of the Boston area native, let alone ever having seen him play. He played very well in scoring four goals from the field and converting two open goal opportunities. Many felt that he was the difference. In his ‘as to be expected’ performance, Henderson counted five markers including a penalty four conversion in the third.  Matt Sekara, in his first 12 goal game in Canada, served notice that he is here to play and wasn’t afraid to point it out.

Giving up one at the start, Millarville got even early and led twice in the second only to finish that period tied at four.  The third was all Tusk and they led at the half  8 – 4.  Mannix and Company pushed  to come within two at the end of the fifth  but that was it. A Martineau penalty  conversion early in the sixth  proved to be too much and Tusk prevailed.

For Millarville, Mannix led the scoring with  six goals (3  fouls) while Roenisch sunk two and Julian Mannix, showing he belongs, had a pair as well.

Millarville drops to 1 – 1 and Tusk joins Palmer Ranch at 1 – 0.

Play continues Friday with Cymric Glen (0 – 1) playing Ivanhoe (0 – 1).

Tusk Energy –  John Rooney 1, Joe Henderson 4, Todd Martineau 3, Matt Sekara 3.

Millarville –  Fred H. Mannix 7, Julian Mannix, Daniel Roenisch 5, Julie Roenisch.
