Weekly Club Report 6/12/09

The SBPRC hit a bit of a bump last week with some unexpected June showers.  We had to cancel Saturday’s games at the club because the fields were still damp.  La Karina decided to make a go of it and play against Piocho Ranch/Klentner Ranch on their home turf up in Santa Ynez.  Piocho had done a lot of scouting and was not going to let La Karina beat them a third time.  The final score was 16-10 Piocho.

The Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club has been enjoying the fruits of its marketing labors with large turnouts at the Sunday matches.  The cabanas were booked and Zaca Mesa Winery did a tasting.  The weather was finally on our side last Sunday and our loyal polo fans were treated to two great matches for the first/second round of the Vic Graber Memorial.

The one o’clock game was Piocho Ranch/Klentner Ranch vs. Long Beach.  Piocho has been playing very well here and Matt Ladin has been at the top of his game.  Long Beach has been having a tough time getting in rhythm and haven’t been controlling the ball like they usually do.  Piocho never let their guard down and by the end of the 6th the score was 13-8.

The second match of the day was La Karina vs Antelope/Windsor Capital.  La Karina has been starting out slow but when they get on their good horses for the second half they come alive.  The game was fast and furious and Santi Wulff of La Karina really knows how to change the pace of a play.  La Karina was down by 5 at half time but scored 7 goals in the last half to win the game 11-10.

Windsor Capital and Long Beach duked it out for their second game of the tournament on Thursday.  The first few chukkers were great to watch with a lot of running and very few fouls.  Windsor Capital, headed by Jason Crowder, was too much for the Walker’s to defend against and he made sure the score never got too close.  Jason is playing well after a bad fall in the consolation game of the Pope Challenge.  The final score was 13-8 Windsor Capital.

This Sunday for the finals of the Vic Graber Memorial we will have Bridlewood Winery doing a wine tasting and the Santa Barbara Woody Car Club will be displaying their cars after the one o’clock game.  The SBPRC also has a new facebook page so be sure to check it out and become a fan.  We also have a twitter account and will be updating it this Sunday with the score after each chukker.  Just add “sbprc.”
