Michelob Ultra Polo Team Captures USPA Governor’s Cup
with 12-7 Triumph over Vero Beach at Vero Beach Polo Club
VERO BEACH – Michelob Ultra Polo scored four unanswered goals in the fifth chukker and coasted to a 12-7 victory over Vero Beach in the 8-goal USPA Governor’s Cup championship match Sunday at Vero Beach Polo and Saddle Club.
Michelob Ultra Polo changed tactics on the bowl-ins thanks to a coaching tip from 10-goaler Sebastian Merlos, who was watching the game with his family.
“Everything just flew and within minutes we scored four goals,” Michelob Ultra Polo patron Peter Busch, who played No. 4
“It completely threw them off and caught them off guard and we were able to adapt,” said Busch’s daughter, Tiffany, who played No. 1. “The little things like that make the biggest difference. I’ve only been playing about four-and-a-half years and I’m always learning something. That’s what I love about this sport.”
The four unanswered goals gave Michelob Ultra Polo an 11-5 lead heading into the final chukker. Tiffany Busch scored two of the goals while Ignacio Saenz and Segundo Ortiz added one goal each in the barrage.
The win was Michelob Ultra Polo’s fourth title of the season at Vero Beach. They also won the 8-goal Citrus League Final, 9-8 over Vero Beach; the 8-goal Treasure Coast Final, 12-7 over Shamrock, and the 4-goal January League, 8-7 over Laurel Brigade.
Four-goaler Ignacio Saenz led Michelob Ultra Polo with six goals while Tiffany Busch added three goals, Segundo Ortiz scored two goals and Peter Busch had one goal.
Gaston Rodriguez and Craig Fraser led Vero Beach with three goals apiece while George Kahle added one goal.
Tiffany Busch was named the MVP while Saenz’s “Dulce” was named Best Playing Pony.
