WELLINGTON, FL (November 30, 2006) – Nine teams have already entered the 22-goal Joe Barry Memorial Cup, the first of five high-goal tournaments scheduled for the 2007 season at International Polo Club Palm Beach, the premier club in the United States. Several spots in each tournament are still available.

Defending Joe Barry Cup champion Catamount dropped out due to a left shoulder injury to patron Scott Devon. He hopes to return in time for the final two tournaments of the season.

Leading the way for this year’s Joe Barry Cup is 2006 runner-up and 2005 champion Lechuza Caracas, whose lineup so far includes patron Victor Vargas and 9-goaler Pite Merlos.

The top contender should be New Bridge/La Dolfina, with patron Russ McCall, 10-goaler Adolfo Cambiaso and 9-goaler Matias Magrini. New Bridge/La Dolfina lost to Catamount in last year’s semifinals, its only defeat in 13 games during the 2006 winter campaign.

Other teams entered in the Joe Barry Cup include Audi, BTA, Pony Express, San Saba and Skeeterville as well as two teams making their first appearance at International Polo Club in 2007 – George Milford-Haven’s Broncos and Gonzalo Avendano’s Patagones.

Twelve teams have already entered the Ylvisaker Cup, the nine in the Joe Barry Cup plus Gillian Johnston’s Bendabout, Peter Brant’s White Birch and Elizabeth Iorio’s Laurence Wallace, which is also a new team. New Bridge/La Dolfina is the defending Ylvisaker Cup champion.
