OAK BROOK POLO KICKS OFF WITH A BANG! 2008

Oak Brook, IL….Independence Day is a time for picnics, barbecues, family fun and fireworks. The Village of Oak Brook is a great place to enjoy all of these festive activities during the Independence Day week. The spectacular fireworks display will be held at the historic Oak Brook Polo Grounds on Thursday evening, July 3, followed by the grand opening of the Oak Brook Polo Season on Sunday, July 6.

Bring the entire family to the Oak Brook Polo Grounds on Sunday to experience an action-packed afternoon of the exciting sport of polo. A sizzling grill is fired up all day, and a full bar with your favorite beverages is available in the field-side tent. Dress is casual and everyone is invited!

Tournament matches will be played at 1 and 3 p.m., and your ticket admits you for the entire afternoon. Both matches will feature some of the top international polo players, competing alongside players from the Chicago area.

The 2008 polo season will run every Sunday from July 6 through September 14. Other activities scheduled throughout the summer include charity benefits, a Model A Classic car show, a Mercedes-Benz Concours d’Elegance, the Argentine American Polo Cup with genuine Argentine asado (barbecue), corporate outings and other entertainment.

Gates open at 12:30 p.m. Tickets, available at the gate, are $10 adults; $5 senior citizens (65 and over); children age 12 and under and parking are free.

The Oak Brook Polo Grounds are located within the beautiful country setting of the 269-acre Oak Brook Sports Core. Entrance is at 31st Street and Polo Drive, one-half mile west of York Road in Oak Brook.

Pack a picnic lunch (or purchase lunch from the sizzling grill), bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy an afternoon of the “sport of kings!”
