The Tortugas CC Open is for the Emilio de Anchorena Cup, the great BMW award and a BMW motorcycle for the winner team is being played since Sept, 17th on its fields at Tortuguitas.

In another very good collective performance, the unbeaten Indios Chapaleufú II (37 goals) obtained zone II of the Triple Crown Open Tournament beating La Dolfina Showmatch (39 goals) by 13-10, the last Argentine Open Champion, displaying a collective performance of the highest level. La Dolfina had Adolfo Cambiaso as their leader again, but he was only able to jeopardize the winning team’s classification until the end of the first half, not being able to recover from their fall against Chapa Uno Toyota Polo Team (36) by 18-10 during the fourth game of this tournament when he was in Aiken, SC playing for the New Bridge Team.

The game was played on field 6 at Tortuguitas (km. 37, 5 Panamerican Route – Access to Pilar) because field 7 (with its new and comfortable grand stands, boards and electronic clock) was not in good conditions due to 100 mm of rain that poured recently. That rain also caused the postponement of the game arranged to define zone 1 between the unbeaten La Aguada Telmex (37) and Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra (38), the last champion of this tournament in 2005. The Tournament justifies its hierarchy and the fact that it is the first one among three great Open Tournaments that make up the Triple Crown. The Argentine Triple Crown is the only one of its kind in the World with the participation of six teams ranging between 35 to 39 goals with an average handicap of 37. This fact has never been seen before; the teams have all their regular players summing up 222 goals.

These six teams will afterwards star the estimates to join the “royalty” in the great 113th Hurlingham and Palermo Opens (from 10/17 to 11/04 the first one and from 11/18 to 12/09 the second one). Hurlingham 30 goal team and Coronel Suarez 28 goal team will afterwards participate in the tournament, but without contesting for the Triple Crown. On Friday, Sept, 29th, these two unbeaten teams gained the right to participate in those two great Opens beating successively Alegria 33 goal team and Santa María de Lobos 30 goal team at the qualifier tournament arranged by the APA.

The match had a rough beginning helped by the type of field it was played on. The end of the first chukker by 2-1 gave evidence of who may win. During the second chukker, La Dolfina increased the number of staggered plays with Cambiaso playing as the center-forward player who received the first applauses from the audience with his amazing mastery of the mallet. Meanwhile, the other three were rehearsing more staggered plays in order to neutralize the excellent central structure of Indios Chapaleufú II team. Chapaleufú II never lost its solid layout although Adolfito brought the score to a tie for the first time at 6m 22 sec. of that chukker. The third and fourth chukkers showed both teams in good shape, repeating alternate offensives. The second closing was by 4-4. During the second partial Chapa II was practical, widening the defensive gap, and positioning at the second half over La Dolfina team by 6-5. From the fifth chukker on, the Chapa II team managed to stop Cambiaso’s incredible forward movements, showed a better performance of their ponies, more connections, all of which strengthen even more the solid structure that the team had. Ruso Heguy’s long shots, plus Nachi’s self-assurance gave rise to Pepe’s runs, all of which made true the fact that when number 1 receives well aimed balls it is because the team is functioning correctly. Chapa II obtained from Milo the perfect complement to stand out and sustain a clear victory and 28 goals in two games heading the team to the Title and the right to go on to fight for the Triple Crown; while La Dolfina will have to intensify the practices in order to improve the collective performance and their horses performance.

Tomorrow, Monday, Oct, 9th at 4.30 PM, on field 6 (because field 7 is not in its best conditions yet) the last game will take place, the game between the unbeaten La Aguada Telmex (37), also with all its regular players as Ignacio Novillo Astrada is back (after playing in the United States for the before mentioned Cup) and the latest champion of the tournament, Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra (38), who lost against El Paraiso polo Team (36) by 13-12. With El Paraiso eliminated from the tournament, La Aguada (+2) leads Ellerstina (-1) who needs a very clear victory while its opponent only needs to win.
