On a day of unusual weather for the Gold Coast it was some tough hombres from the middle of the country who said “Lets Play Polo.” It was too wet for the 8-goal it was said, but these guys said lets roll and they did. They all won at least part of it. There was a mixture of polo from around the USA. You had the big sticks like Peter Alworth out of Minnesota, Chuck Weaver fit as a fiddle out of Illinois, also out of the Lincoln state was Gene Burke along with Glen Watterson in from Ohio and Mike Dailey from the state of Hawaii. From the Peach state it was Winship Rees and Joe Meyer from the Apple state. It was Big George Dill also out of the Buckeye state and it was Tim Nice and their neighbor to the south. Kentucky had big Ed as in Armstrong swatting the plastic hard. Another hard-hitter was Ray Mayer out of the Rockies we call Coors country in Colorado and a Golden state group like Russ Sheldon from Poway, CA and Jeep Holden out of Santa Barbara, CA and the host Pacific Governor Pat Nesbitt supplying the fun for it all + horses + a field + a sight from a House no one is likely to forget. It was a great day with rain and wind early and then Sunshine and nice clear warm skies to end the day.

Big Jack Shelton was also seen field-side, but would not put on his boots. Now with all these big men of polo able to play polo with no outsiders they could figure out a way to put young Americans on the field. It might help polo grow in America. There are only 17 players, 6 goals or above in the USA and Canada. WHY? Well they never get to play here that’s why. If they cannot afford to go to Argentina and practice with them well they just grow and this has been shown by England. Let them play and they will. It’s simple. No more than 1 foreigner on a team 20-goals and under and he must be 5 goals or more then watch our polo grow. Instead of us developing the foreign players, lets grow our own. There are at least 30 kids under 25 who could do it with a chance.

See ya. Thanks for coming out west.
