It is Polo time in the North everywhere from from Northern Alberta, Canada and all the way across Canada and cross the big Pond it is Ireland the UK Spain all the way across Europe and into Russia the same just to the south as you enter Western USA its San Diego to Spokane and just keep heading East above the Mason Dixon line Santa Fe, St Louis all the way to the East Coast where Virginia. New York and Pa. all enjoy the Sport .
The biggest game in the World this week will be the Finals of the British Gold Cup which maybe the toughest tournament in the World with around 20 teams of the best players in the World play the 22 goal championship from May thru July in the UK before moving to Spain and France . There is no Polo like it for being so competitive they have the best Players the best Horses and the best Facilities anywhere in the World maybe not the best weather but still they have 20 teams in the 22 goal alone there is no bigger or better or more diversified from Asia ,Africa, North America, South America and of course a whole bunch of teams from Europe.
Tomorrow the 22 goals end with Les Lions and the big name Merlos brothers and a South African C.Mackenzie with Patron Mr Gottschalk taking on Zacara who often play in the US and they have the no names but they are here in the finals who are led by a very banged up but tough as nails Patron Lyndon Lea easily one of the best new Patrons in recent years with a rock star from Argentina Hilario Ulloa and another very quick South African du Pleiss and GDT or Gonzalo Del Tour also from Argentina it should be a Dandy and they will play in the rain I Guarantee they never stop. Here in the US it was another South African Sugar Erskine leading Audi to the title of the Skeene Cup in Santa Barbara as Audi and Mr Ganzi stopped Mrs. Ganzi and Piaget in the finals to start the 20 goal season in SB where it will not rain . This game was followed by the Beluga Cup played by a visiting team from Moscow Polo Club a great showing it was. Up North like in Calgary it was yet another South African teaming up with Canadian John Rooney in winning the first cup of the season as well.
I would have to say South Africa is defintley on the move in the World of Polo as 4 of 24 players in the finals around the World this week are from their.
There maybe one in San Diego as well where they had the Chili cook off last night where the lights never go off and they will be playing to a packed house on Sunday just like ever Sunday where the Surf meets the Turf.
Well get up early Sunday watch the British Gold Cup cheer on the USA in the Ladies World Cup and then drive out to Polo wherever you are . IT IS P O L O TIME
