The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder
March 20th, 2011

From coast to coast it is a day of Polo.  It is big time Polo as well … the difference is only in the eye of the beholder.  In Indio at Eldorado Polo (EDPC) they are playing for money in a different game called the Skins which actually means 6 games all in one. Above all it is for cash. Each chukkar is worth $$ so it gets very competitive.

If you travel 3500 miles across teams are playing 26-goal Polo for a Gold trophy called the Piaget Gold Cup. The salary for 1 player, 1 chukkar probably equals the total purse at EDPC.  Do not try to tell me it makes a difference, as if you are in Indio at the EDPC club thry will be every bit as hungry as the foursomes playing for a trophy they can not take home or melt and sell.

On both coasts tonight there are 16 people and many staff members worrying about tomorrow I guarantee. Both will be very exciting and both will be very important for those involved and all who have worked hard to be where only 4 of the 16 to 18 teams wanted to be in the FINALS.

At Eldorado it is :

MANSOUR Captain Ben Soleimani leading his Mansour team to what he hopes to the title and he has
as far as I know .

Ben Soleimani
Santi Von Wernich
Marcos Bignoli
Benjamin Soleimani

CAM Clark Ford -Captain Ron Mathision from the Canadian Rockies like Calgary just reentering the world of
POLO and Ron has always liked starting at the top and he has:

Ron Mathision
Pedro Orellano
Marcello Abiatti
Cachi Galindo

This should be a thriller with a very young team in Mansour against some tough old veterans who have been there many times. It is Polo and nobody knows what the result will be.   The Skins is always a very exciting game no matter what.

Also in the Desert this week was the start of the Champions’ Cup which is a money tournament and paying the big bucks as the Lions Roar at Empire Polo.  The purse is for around 70 Grand so things are slow, but not dead in the Desert.

DOWN SOUTH IT IS MUSCLE VS FINESSE:

AUDI – Captain Marc Ganzi likes to win and there is no doubt about it.  He has it on his mind.
Nicolas Pieres  has the name nothing else needed.
Gonzalo Pieres  is a master of deception and very, very fast and quiet.
Rodrigo Andrad  is 8 goals and from Brazil and a Bad A** player.

LeChuza – Victor Vargas, like Marc, has seen the Gold and likes it. He loves to have fun and to go fast.
Sapo Cassett  … There is one way to describe Sapo is he should have been a cat. He is that fast and he is there.
Juan Nero  is tough hungry and very good and also GP’s teammate in the triple crown so this could be 1 up
Nico Espain is deliberate, disciplined, direct and very dangerous to leave alone.

So no matter where you are, you can have one heck of a day at Polo and WATCH THOSE PONIES RUN DOWN SUNDAY LANE!

see ya @POLO
