Pablo Spinacci was the high scorer on opening day of the Veuve Clicqout Cup, with six goals, but it wasn’t enough for Topping Pond which bowed to White Birch 13-10, September 5.

Going into the third chukker the game was knotted 4-4, and then White Birch jumped ahead to stay. Two goals were scored by Peter Brant, one from the field, and one field goal each by Chris Nevins and Martin Donovan, and Topping Pond was unable to score, giving White Birch an 8-4 lead at the half.

Four of Spinacci’s goals were penalty conversions. Nevins led White Birch with five goals, all from the field.
