The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder

It might have been 4-goal polo, but it was fast clean and there were no twirling mallets or major whining. It was just good, fast, clean polo on a field that played absolutely fantastic.  Good work David and Vicente, the field crew here at Empire.   Well done!!

Coldwell Banker won the 4-Goal Stagecoach Challenge. Manny Rodriguez, Jared Sheldon, Madelyn Cobb, Lyn Cobb.

Most finals start out with each team testing each other. This was not the case at all. From the first throw in Jared Sheldon and Madelyn Cobb haul a– to goal and boom up one. At throw in 2 Ash gets control,  booms it  to Conrad  and … boom a goal.  This was the way it was going to be and excellent play by the Patrons.  It was amazing.  General Lee Pettigrew on Mecari/Casa comes blowing through, takes out a man, goes for pass and get’s it to goal. It was close for a while. At 1/2 the difference was just a goal, but the 4 th found M/C smoking them on both ends and it seemed in total control, but it’s 5 chukkers and the Cobb Lady’s are from a family who knows yhe Jasons’s and they grew up King of the Hills in Northern CA.  They had no intention to say good bye to this chance to win the Title ,after all Pop was Mac Jason and Lyn was not a boy, so she had to be one on the field because Mom and Pop planned to be at polo anyway. Mac Jason was one of the main Shareholders next door at El Dorado and still is. As the fifth chukkar started it seemed Casa/ Mecari were totally in control and then Madelyn jumped on a ball and flew down the field, just wide with a bomb. At the knock in Jared Sheldon, who plays until he is dead, came to life and knowing Lyn and Madelyn were doing their job and Manny Rodriquez was in high-mode, he started to gamble.   The next thing that happened … bang, bang, bang and there were three goals and we have a tied ball game.  Mecari/Casa roars right back but can not close the door and with the clock ticking down and a battle in front of the goal it was left there and looks like overtime.  Then look out, here comes Mom (Lyn Cobb) and she is Smoking and there is no doubt she is thinking THIS GAME IS OVER AND IT WAS Lyn who SMOKED IT AND WENT TO THE TROPHY STAND! WELL DONE LYN JASON COBB. YOUR POP WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD AND SO WERE WE.

I met Mr. Cobb yesterday and he is a fantastic person and his support is phenomenal for a person who does not play Polo. That is what makes Polo the sport it is .

WELL DONE TO BOTH TEAMS BUT CONGRATS TO CALDWELL BANKER/ MENLO
CHAMPIONS:
M.Cobb
M. Rodriquez
J.Sheldon
L.Cobb the MVP but 1/2 goes to Mr Cobb

In the finals of the Empire League made up of twosomes,  it was a dandy.s Joesph Stuart filled in for AH4 (Alex Haagen, IV) came to the field bored.  No polo is hard on Josey he needs action. And he got action on Sunday playing with Tentnology and patron Gary Werner and Jason Larvik along with Nicolas Maciel. They took on a German Combo ready to battle … Bolko Kissling and Conrad the “Wonder Kid” as well as Casper and Mr. Wolf.  Conrad and Ashton were not really in the mood as they lost the earlier finals,  so they were ready for war.  Casa Sombres was in control early and most of the first 1/2 of the game,  but it was Josey (Joseph Stuart) and the relentless attack that started to gain ground and finally it became his game! You wanta run … lets roll and he did. It was Tentnology taking the lead and the game.

It was fantastic game for the final day of January polo. We look forward to an even better Feb. so see you there at Empire Polo Club,  you will not be disappointed.

Tentnology/Empire won the Empire League. Gery Warner, Joseph Stuart, Nicolas Maciel and Jason.

THE JOE BARRY IN FLORIDA AT I.P.C.

It was Audi’s to win, but for some reson George Rawlings just never goes away and he went looking for candy and came up with some the M&M’s. Two former 10-goal players.  Matias Magrini and Mariano Aguerre seem to think they still are and I doubt many people can argue it right now. They lost their first game and woke up and it has been a normal Rawlings freight line ever since. They just beat you one way or another and they are now Champions of the first big one In PALM BEACH well done George.

The only bad thing I heard of Polo today was why was it not next weekend as the Super Bowl is on.  Why not rain out then not now. Hey lets just have a Super Bowl Party @ POLO like NEXT SUNDAY!

see ya
