Its crunch time as we work to the final 8 in the U.S. Open. Its down to 9 teams and when the experts get done with the math it could be 8, but I am sure its still 9 or maybe 11. As I see it. the ones who are in the Quarter Finals are Las Monjitas 2 & 0 , White Birch with a 2 & 1 , Jedi with a 2 & 0 those 3 I know are in. These 3 teams are out of the Open: Lawerence Wallace, Catamount & Black Watch. So there must be 8 other teams going for 5 spots and that will be decided on Tues. and Wed/ as the Quarters are Sat. and Sun. The semis are next Wed. the 18th.
So thats the way it is in a sad ’07. There was a very moving event in the 3 p.m. game as a riderless horse was led thru the crowd in memory of Skeeter Johnston. It was one of his favorite horses and it was a very moving experience.
Polo does seem to bring with it some questionable things. Just recently a very famous player was punished for losing a game on purpose to better his position in the U.S. Open draw and he was removed from the tournament. In this particular case he was not hurting others, just himself. Yesterday I believe the same thing was done a little softer, but the intent was clear to many and this time it was hurting a competing Patron, so one rarely knows just what is going on from the outside of a game. I however doubt there will be anymore of this as from now on a loss is a trip to the subsidaries and while its fun to win its not the U.S. Open and thats what its all about.
