White Birch (Santino Magrini, Hilario Ulloa, Mariano Aguerre and Peter Brant) took it out on Beluga (Chris Brant, Naco Taverna, Tommy Biddle and Salvador Ulloa) Thursday afternoon, racing out to a 7-3 halftime lead before racking up their second consecutive Monty Waterbury Cup victory in resounding fashion, 12-6.

Beluga received two goals by handicap from the 20-goal White Birch team but got the first goal from the field from fifteen-year-old Santino Magrini, 2-1. Mariano Aguerre tied the game at 2-2 with the only other goal of the chukker.

For the second straight chukker White Birch kept Beluga off of the scoreboard while adding three goals of their own. Aguerre added his second goal of the game followed by single goals from Hilario Ulloa and Peter Brant.  After two periods of play, White Birch led by three goals, 5-2.

Beluga team captain Chris Brant finally broke through the White Birch defenders to score his team’s first goal from the field, but White Birch just continued to roll. Two more goals from Magrini went unanswered as Beluga trailed by four goals at the end of the first half, 7-3.

A focused Beluga team took the field for the fourth chukker, complimenting goals from Salvador Ulloa and tommy Biddle with shutout defense. Beluga was within two goals of the lead, 7-5.

The fourth chukker surge by Beluga got the attention of every of the White Birch lineup as the fifth period got underway. Hilario Ulloa scored the first goal of the chukker followed by goals from Aguirre, Brant and Magrini, 11-5.  Beluga’s Salvador Ulloa was credited with the final goal of the period but it was White Birch on the winning end of an 11-6 score with one chukker remaining to be played.

Beluga tried to rally the troops for the final chukker but White Birch wasn’t having any of it. The White Birch defense shutout the Beluga attack for the third time in the course of the game.  A final goal from Peter Brant gave the win to White Birch, 12-6.

Magrini led all scorers with four goals. Aguirre and Brant scored three goals apiece and Hilario Ulloa added two goals for the win.   Salvador Ulloa scored a team-high two goals for Beluga.  Chris Brant and Biddle each added a goal and the team received two goals by handicap in the loss.

Monty Waterbury Cup competition continues on Sunday, June 12th with a 10am match between Postage Stamp (Annabelle Gundlach, Brandon Phillips, Nick Manifold and Joao Paolo Ganon) and Airstream (Peter Orthwein/Ben Lynch, Matias Magrini, Kris Kampsen and Guille Aguero). The 3pm match of the day will feature two undefeated teams in White Birch (Santino Magrini, Hilario Ulloa, Mariano Aguerre and Peter Brant) and Goose Creek (Maureen Brennan, Tomas Garcia Del Rio, Mariano Gonzalez and Marcos Garcia Del Rio).  Both teams boast perfect 2-0 records.
