What do Big Brown, Boston, Fedder, LA Dodgers, La Aguada and Tom Brady have in common? They will not be #1 in the final standings this year. That’s sports. It is a game and no matter what it is, it is still just a game. Some like Big Brown and Brady were finished by injuries. Others like Boston, Fedder, LA and La Aguada were out played at whatever they do. In sports it’s usually just your pride that gets hurt. In the other world of money, it’s far different as it takes money to play sports. Sports are only am outlet, not a requirement. People must eat to survive and to eat they have to have jobs. We are in the corner in a bad way right now. Greed of some companies has put us there, but its too late to cry. We must grow from this. In polo we have had this for most of our lives. It often is just a simple fact. We believe too many things. There are those individuals who are rich and they play polo. This we know. Too often we are taken in by big talk and fast bucks because we are greedy. We begin to live a make believe life because some one says I am getting into polo in a big way. Those who make it happen for them start seeing $’s and not the real deal. Maybe those who are driving our motivation want us to think this way. Maybe they are manipulating us, but it’s not that hard to find out the real deal. Do we ever? No. We just like the talk, the cash and rarely see the crash coming and it usually does. This time, however, it’s a real crash. It may call for survival. Not only for us, but the players who carry us, the four-legged heros of this game. This is where people, the want-to-be patrons will leave them stranded and this is what we must guard against as real polo people. Polo will come back, but it is so important for us to watch out for the real players, the horses. If you see a problem please tell someone who can help or call me 805-896-4406 or e-mail lynn@polozone.com. We don’t want horses going unfed, ill treated or abandoned. There will be a way to make it work and to find a solution.

In the polo world I know many results, but not who won the Silver Cup as two Yankee 8-goalers Adam Snow “the Snowman” and “Nick the Stick” (Nick Roldan) had a game today. There is no give in either one. One is crafty and clever. The other is a cannon and very much a rock and roll it man, so I am sure it was fun to watch, even as far away as Aiken, SC. Further down the line in the Hurlingham Open in Argentina, it was Adolfo Cambiaso and La Dolfina taking the qualifiers out as in Trenque. Pilara did the same to BlackWatch on the other side of the draw.

Here in Santa Barbara it was Mansour and the Abby with a good win over Double Champs Bravehart/Chadmar in a very good game. I really did see something odd in this game. Ben Soleimani smoked a near-side right down the tube. It must have been NY Polo. In the curtain call it was the Lawman and Nicoma/KR taking out the Rube and Bake show of Gehache.

We will try to let you know what’s up in Houston, Dallas and the Silver Cup ASAP. Remember to keep an eye out for our four-legged friends as they may need us during this economic downturn.

FYI: Just heard the Silver Cup in Aiken was a very close game and a good game. “Adam the Snowman” and Goose Creek won in overtime over Pony Express.

See ya.
