WORLD PREMIER POLO CUP REVIVED

The Villages Polo Club announced today that it has signed a contract with the Mexican Polo Federation and the United States Polo Association to host the 2009 Camacho Cup at its Florida venue on Friday March 13th at 3 o’clock. This prestigious polo event has not been played since 1988 and will now be presented at the site of one of America’s premier polo clubs in The Villages, Florida.

Both countries will enter teams representing the best players from their respective nations. The American team will be captained by Mike Azzaro, one of the world’s best and most charismatic players. He’s has won five U.S. Open championships and four World Cups. Heading up the Mexican contingent will be Carlos Gracida. He is the only polo player in the history of the sport to win three major world titles in the same year, twice.

The Camacho Cup is named after General Avila Camacho who was the President of Mexico in the early 1940s and an avid polo player. This year will mark the 9th time that the cup has been played for. The last game saw Mexico defeat the Americans by a score of 9 to 6 for their third consecutive victory for the prestigious cup.

This action packed event is expected to draw the largest crowds in modern day polo with fans anticipating a show down that has taken over 20 years to revive.
