You would have expected opening day jitters from the fledgling Zifani polo team (Hilali Noordeen, Matias Torres Zavaleta, Nic Roldan and Juan Ambroggio), but it was Zacara that seemed a little slow to get on track in the opening game of the 2014 Cartier Queens Cup as they battled to a 2-2 first chukker.

Zifana seemed to have the upper hand in second chukker action, outscoring Zacara, 2-1, and taking a 4-3 lead after the second chukker of play.

The Zacara defense showed up in the third, shutting down the Zifani attack.  Goals from Facundo Pieres and Gonzalo Del Tour had Zacara in front, 5-4 at the end of the first half.

A reorganized Zacara team took the field for the fourth chukker, s coring four unanswered goals and taking an 8-4 lead over an out-gunned Sifani foursome.

Sifani could find no offense in the fifth period as Zacara hammered them with five more goals without any response from Zifani.  At the end of the fifth Zacara sat on top of a commanding 13-4 lead.

The two teams traded goals in the final chukker with Zacara team captain Lyndon Lea getting on the scoreboard in his team’s 15-6 blowout win.
