The Polo

‘The matches are fast and furious, and the extra-large orange ball, designed not to get lost in the sand, flies around at speeds of up to 100mph..’
The Guardian

Polo played in an enclosed arena has been referred to as ‘Ice Hockey on Horse Back’. Spectators are close to the action – they can fully appreciate the horsemanship, speed and gladiatorial nature of Polo. The polo ponies love the sand – they can accelerate and stop fast and can turn extremely sharply. The thrill and excitement of horses galloping on the sand with the English Channel as a backdrop, whilst sipping champagne amongst glamorous company, is a vision to remember – an intoxicating mix. Polo players engage with the sponsors and spectators both on and off the pitch.

The Location

‘Only one sport is glamorous enough for the platinum peninsula of Sandbanks’
The Times

Sandbanks is probably the most exclusive beach community in the UK. The infamous
Peninsular extends out across Poole Harbour on the scenic Dorset coast. It boasts
upmarket luxurious homes and pristine ‘Blue Flag’ beaches. Poole is easily accessible with a fast rail connection (100 minutes direct from London Waterloo), good road access (30 minutes from Southampton) and 2 International airports within 45 minutes.

International Volleyball

The beach Volleyball has been a popular spectacle over the last few years. Last year saw England take on Australia. This year we hope to welcome more international players.

Meet the players and try out this great sport during the event on our ‘have a go’ Beach Volleyball court, set up behind the grand stand.

Charity

One of the highlights of both days is the polo pony vs 4×4 race on the sand. Each year our chosen charity benefits from the proceeds on bets taken before each race. Don’t miss the charity auction that also helps to raise money.

Retail Village

The Beach Retail Village attracts a wide range of exhibitors of luxury, beach and polo related goods and services. Quality food concessions and bars are also an important feature of this unique event experience.
