I have received two very informative and excellent tips from Russ Sheldon recently. One was a health tip for more than a headache. It was if you feel a heart attack coming and are you are alone try gagging or hard coughing. It puts pressure on heart and may give you a few extra minutes to get aid or to get to an emergency room. The other tip was a safety tip which I have thought of in a dark parking lot, but not at home. Keep your car keys near you at night or anytime I guess If you hear an intruder or danger in or near your home, hit the panic alarm. It may scare off an intruder or draw attention from a nearby helper. Great work Mr. Sheldon!

THE PCO (Pacific Coast Open) started on Wednesday. Audi took on defending champs of the last tournament, Antelope/Long Beach, and it was a close game until Geoff Palmer again tried a emergency dismount and was injured. He was replaced for the remainder of game by Santi Torres. Despite a vote by 5 of the 7 Patrons to discontinue use of young amateurs or in this case young pros and replace patrons with equally rated patrons, but when it came down to, it was again Santa Barbara Polo Club not interested in progress by keeping Patrons happy. This is also the reason for the loss of teams during the last few years. There were only 4 teams in the 8-goal last fall, 4 in the 12-goal this year and 7 in high-goal. There was also a steep increase in fees which is not the only reason. Some would say the handicaps are the same. It is true, but its not. A Patron usually has much better horses, so joke about letting a young driver drive a Porsche. As with most any older person, it will just not be the same car with a different driver. It has to do with nerve, reactions, and daring. Yes, its all of the above and that’s the way it is! Most kids do not drive Porsches and most kids do not ride $30,000 dollar horses, so its different. Santa Barbara must learn one patron is happy, but 6 others are not and these Patrons pay the bills. It is a long memory for many. Just look around and see who is not here anymore.

Anyway, Long Beach / Antelope did not win and Audi just decided to get it on and did it their way. They had the Italian Spinachi and a triple K (Kris Kampsen). They flew for Mark Ganzi’s first game and the Macho behind it all, but 1 loss is not the end of the World. There are 6 games for all and the best 4 go on to the semis. So what were the ALB thinking? Let it go and lose the heat? We will know soon as Friday brings on a big day of polo.
