Goose Creek (Maureen Brennan, Peke Gonzalez, Mariano Gonzalez and Tomas Garcia del Rio) handed Coca-Cola (Gillian Johnston, Julian de Lusarreta, Julio Arellano and Del Walton) their third straight loss of the season with an 11-6 win in the 2017 Joe Barry Memorial Cup action Thursday afternoon at the International Polo Club.

Led by seven goals (three on penalty conversions) from Mariano Gonzalez and well-oiled teamwork, Goose Creek built up a 6-4 halftime lead before cruising to the 11-6 victory.  The win improves the Goose Creek record to 2-1 and moves them into one of Sunday’s mini-quarterfinals.  Coca-Cola falls to 0-3 and will be watching future Joe Barry action from the sidelines.

Grand Champions 8, Postage Stamp Farm 6

In a noon tournament match, Grand Champions Polo Club (Marc Ganzi, Inaki Laprida, Nic Roldan and Juancito Bollini) remained undefeated (3-0) and earned a spot in next week’s semifinals as they edged Postage Stamp Farm (Annabelle Gundlach, Brandon Phillips, Mariano Aguerre and Kris Kampsen) in a game that could have gone either way.

Grand Champions 8-goaler Nic Roldan scored all four of his goals on penalty shots with Kris Kampsen leading the Postage Stamp Farm effort with three penalty goals.

Joe Barry memorial Cup competition continues on Friday with a 3pm continuation of a game that was interrupted by rain between Villa del Lago (Jim Zenni, Agustin Obregon, Hilario Ulloa and Carlucho Arellano) and Mt. Brilliant (Bo Goodman, Jason Crowder, Santiago Chavanne and Julian Daniels).Villa Del Lago is currently winless at 0-2 while Mt. Brilliant takes the field at 1-1.
