most of the best Polo Players in the World are in Wellington , Fl. just a few minutes West of Palm Beach , Fl. and the Piaget Gold Cup is a big reason, being the second most important Tournament in the U.S. Players from about 9 countries and 4 continents are all here for the Gold whether it be money or prestige of winning one of the biggest tournaments in the World. There are 12 teams in the 012 edition and they are divided into 4 Brackets of 3 and they play across bracket where they play 3 games vs 3 teams in another bracket and in the current format the best 2 records in each bracket continue to a Quarter finals eliminating 4 teams in this 3 game process which is not always the best as fixed games do come in this system. Never the less it is a win to get there and that means a lot of work as most of these teams are near 26 goals, so not exactly local weekend warriors. It all started last Wednesday as 1 and 2 hit the gorgeous greens prepared by Ray and his IPC crew. Game one seen the Mannix Brothers the best players of Canada fall just barely to Texas based ERG built around Super stick Sebe Merlos in OT game 2 featured English based Zacara as they rolled over new comers La Esenenada led by Mr Magrini game 3 of the first round was CV Whitney champs led by Rocky Mountain Man Bob Jornayvaz as they snuck by Audi led by Melissa Ganzi by 1 . Round one of Bracket 3 and 4 found Piaget with superstar Gonzalo Pieres stoping Los Monjitas . Valente 2 with young Robert Jornayvaz blew by Orchard Hill and headed to round 2 which started and ended a little early on Sat. ERG returned without patron And blew by La Ensenada to be the first at 2 and 0 and then the Canadians the Brother Duo of Fred and Julian pulled the first big upset as they beat Whitney Champs Valiente 1 and are now 1 and 1 then Mother nature showed she is always the boss and Polo came to a halt for about 46 hours and then she blew the fields dry and away they went again today making up two games and they were so similar but exciting .
On a super field owned by Mr Vargas and Lechuza it was a barn burner Mark Ganzi and his Piaget team just smoked Victor’s boys for 2 chukkars and the the Owls got their vision as they just flew into the mix and tied it up and left the field happy but Piaget was not done and flew up the board again and here came the Owls again and tied it up again and in the end it was a goal with the clock going to 0. To send them to 2 and 0. Back at IPC it was Audi with Melissia and Nick the Stick taking on Faco and Zacara as the Captain of the ship was earning money in the UK getting drubbed on for 2 chukkars and getting some back in the game the third and finally tying it all up in the fourth but here came the Stick and the Brazilian Magician and they smoked the flag 5 times to leave at + 3 but Magoo and rookie Diego Arelano got it back in the next and finally caught fire in the 6th as Facundo Pieres went a little crazy and sent the flags flying to go up by 1 it was not over yet as the Stick of Nick let him down on a last second chance to knot it up and a re leaved Zacara headed to the tent at 2 and 0 . Two more games left in 2nd round should be played Tues. Today’s game were so similar it seemed to be the Weather Both Marc and Melissa Ganzi’s team seemed on fire early and in the middle to just lose in the last seconds in the end : but that’s why People play Polo
