The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder

There is lots and lots of polo on Friday, the first one after a day of Love.  It will not be all love tomorrow. We will go to Florida first as many of the games will be underway or done before many rise out here. It is the Quarter finals of the Ylvisaker Cup, named after the man who made Palm Beach and did it well.  It is with a sad note we tell you of the passing of Clark Hethrington, who was probably Big Bills #1 man on Polo along with Mr. Stribling.  They were a huge part of the structure that brought Palm Beach to Polo.  On a side note Clark was also an Okie as John T. Oxley and they fought it out in Oklahoma for years between Tulsa and Norman.  Both ended up in FL about 1500 miles away.

2012 has been hard on polo history. We have lost 3 leaders in the Sport of Kings and all different. Smiling Happy Mr. Kuhn and the the quiet and Elegant Mr. Jason. Now the not too shy and always ready to move Mr. Hetherington. It will be a big minus in the World of Polo.

Friday sees the final 8 and they know there is no tomorrow and it looks like this …

Friday Feb 17

10am Quarterfinal

A: Lucchese vs Orchard Hill west coast Player Santi Torres Luc.

Noon Quarterfinal C: Circa vs Piaget West coast Jason Crowder Pia.

3pm Quarterfinal B: Valiente I vs Coca-Cola Denver Bob Jourvanaz

4pm Quarterfinal D: Audi vs Villa del Lago

As we all know, many of the better young players from the West Coast have left for Florida which is sad, but it is a sign of times. Many like the Torres brothers, the Galindo brothers, Nick Morrison,Jason Crowder, Joesph Stuart … about 30 goals worth of west coast players.

Polo will continue after Herpes Equine Virus Quarantine in the desert this weekend.  All looks to be good as big as Empire and El Dorado reopen the doors without competing with the NFL . The good thing was everyone got to watch the Super Bowl and we had some snow, so they had places to go so Sunday is a great day to see the :
