2008 RMPA Polo Season

The Royal Malaysian Association has confirmed the dates of the 2008 polo season. The RMPA International, B and C Leagues have been reinstated. Also added is a first RMPA Ladies Polo Tournament.

The RMPA International League will have four tournaments in 2008. They are the Royal Selangor International at the end of May, the Ranhill Cup at Ranhill-Tanamera in June, the Malaysian Open at the end of July till 3 August, and the Royal Pahang Classic in August.

The handicap range will remain 12 to 14 goals, with play over 4 chukkas. The decision was taken to increase to 5 chukka matches only in the 2009 season.

Six teams were invited and immediately confirmed their participation in the 2008 RMPA International League. They are: Royal Pahang Polo Club, BRDB, Cameron Highlands, Jogo Polo, Ranhill Polo and Thailand Polo. Each International League team will pay an entry fee for the league of RM40,000 to RMPA by 31st January 2008.

The B League was also revived, with three events in 2008. They are the Ranhill B League Tournament in mid-April, the RSPC Invitational in July, and the Royal Pahang Classic in August. Teams will play in the 4 to 6 goal handicap range, over four chukkas. The entry deadline is 31st January 2008, with a fee of RM15,000 to enter the league. Two teams, Kelantan Polo Club and Punjab, have already confirmed their participation in 2008.

The decision was also taken to form a C League. This league will be played over 4 chukkas in the -2 to 0 handicap range. There are three tournaments in the C League. They are the Bukit Kiara C League Tournament in June, RSPC Invitational in July and the Royal Pahang Classic. Teams may enter players that are sharing chukkas so that players with one pony may still participate. The fee is RM6,000 to enter the C league, and is payable to the RMPA by 31st January 2008.
