The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder

Yes: today about 2:30 CA time Adolfo Cambiaso and La Dolfina lost his first tournament in a year to a very good team, who were and still are the defending Champions.  Ellerstina just a 40-goal team and an hour later a magical mare named Zenyatta also lost her first and only race over the last 20 races by a foot.

All good things have to end but it was sure sad to see it happen as that is what makes sports and competition. In Cambiaso’s case and this is just information from the Internet … I read that Cambiaso was held scoreless. That in itself sounds stupid, I doubt he has played a game ever when he did not score, so if this is true I would say there is something wrong or there is going to be hell to pay for it very soon.

Zenyatta was beaten by a very good horse, probably Horse of the Year, but might have been a mistake by the rider as she came from probably 40 lengths behind some of the best horses in the world and then lost by less than a foot and with another stride may have won. We will never know because they are both over now.

I am sure it was good for the Race World many of the new winners  They are young people and that has to be good for the game. History was made by another Fantastic horse, also a mare, named Goldikova.  She is an Irish Bred 5-year-old. She won her 3rd Breeders Cup race, which is something never done before. Goldikova is Europe’s answer for Zenyatta and they will say she is better. She is very good, that is for sure, but we will never know.

Horses actually make so many sports work and they also make so many lives better for all of us. So next time you see one … think about it.

Back to the Polo World it is time to think about those cold winter days which could be just wonderful weekends in a nice warm spot in a nice warm place in Southern, CA or south, FL or the Pacfic Coast of Mexico. Get the fever and head to a POLO Place wherever it maybe. We can help you.
