In golf they call Sept. and Oct. the silly season where all those have done well play for millions in gimmick games. Skins, Fourball, Father/Son and family tournaments. Polo has Ladies playing polo always, but every Fall seems to be the big Ladies tournament season. Maybe we should call it Fillies Season. There are Ladies Tournaments only all over the place this month through November including San Diego, CA, Aiken, SC, Houston,TX, lovely Costa Careyes, Mexico and Buenos Aires, Argentina. I am sure they are having one or more in Australia somewhere this Fall too.
This weekend its Tracee Mulvaney and her Gladiator Girls Polo Tournament and it will rule the San Diego Polo Club. They have nothing but fun on the plate as they roll in from across the country + a little UK, Mexico and Canada, maybe 1 from the Islnds and a couple from down in Buenos Aires. Its sure to be fun and it will be tough Polo as it always is. The Chicks polo is not for chickens and there are no side saddles. Ladies have played Polo for a long time, but its so much more organized now than it used to be. There have been Ladies on winning teams everywhere, but the Argrntine Open I think. I know the U.S. and British Opens have been won by Lady players on a mixed team. So if you need something to do in the San Diego area or Southern Cal. come on out. The Padres are out, the Chargers are in the hills and LA has no pro ball now, so come and watch them run. Tracee keeps the San Diego tradition as there is a party every night.
Here is some news from around the country and farther down South. Its raining in Argentina where Little Mac (Frederick Mannix, Jr.) is waiting to make a run at the big one. In Aiken, SC its Ms. Johnston, one of the Ladies to win the U.S. Open, waiting to try to win the Silver Cup. She will not be in San Diego. In Houston they are heavy in the 12’s. Down south in Boca Raton, FL its also wet, so the Fall leagues are on hold. In a dry California its the final 8-goal in Santa Barbara and you know about San Diego. Also at Will Rogers I think its time for his Cup. He is the man who said “Polo a passport to the World. So thats a wrap.
