Indio, CA (December 22, 2007) – In polo, the bottom line is simple – if you want to advance and play in the final of any tournament, winning all your preliminary games will get you there. In the World Gym four goal test, that indeed has turned out to be the situation as the two teams graduating to Sunday’s final, go there undefeated.
Bracket B was simple – The Saturday matchup, with two undefeated quartets, Los Caballos and Rancho Amistad facing off, the winner would advance. Los Caballos with a 6 – 4 victory did so. For the winners, Victor Soto scored four goals with help from Craig Steinke and Noel Muller with one each. It was obvious that four players playing at or above their ratings would prevail – such is polo.
For Rancho Amistad, Ashton Wolfe was huge as he scored all four goals in the loss.
Bracket A was somewhat more complicated – or could have been. World Gym, at 2 – 0, went up against Vista Santa Rosa with a 1 – 1 record. A victory by the Santa Rosa people and a Lovely Polo win over Deepwater Grill would have created a three-way tie at the top. The weight lifters would have none of it, and advanced with a well earned 8 – 4 win. Alvaro Tadeo and Bob Puetz scored three each for the winners and Patrick Uritz added two.
For the runners up, Scott Gundlach and Carolyn Anier had two each.
The final, Los Caballos vs. World Gym, will go Sunday afternoon.
