Thermal, CA (January 21, 2008) – With Fergus Gould showing all star form very early in the 2008 season, Bill Freeman’s Team Corleone went to 2 – 0 in the Hidden Creek Open at the La Quinta Polo Club on Sunday. Gould, with four goals, after five on Saturday, led Freeman and Company to an 8 – 5 victory over the Sean Keys/Steve Armour foursome, Hidden Creek/Shanghai.
Adding to Gould’s four, Freeman had three (1 foul), and the handicap difference provided one.
For Hidden Creek/Shanghai, Keys and Rob Yackley had a pair each with Graham Bray adding one.
The second game of the afternoon had Kelly Maloney and Craig Steinke’s Ohana/Stormcat group getting their first win of the young season, 9 – 7 over David Ragland’s Pink Deco. After an uncharacteristic slow start on Saturday, Dan Juarez was large with five goals for the winners. Helping Juarez were Steinke with two and Santiago von Wernich with a single. An award of one at the start completed the scoring.
For the losers, Jesse Bray had four (1 foul), Marcos Araya nailed two, and Ragland scored once.
With one game left for each team on Saturday, January 26, 2008, it goes without saying that Corleone will play in Sunday’s final. It also is reasonable to conclude that their game against Ohana/Stormcat on Saturday will be a preview of the Sunday game.
The format at La Quinta provides two points for a win and one for a tie. Final games, however, will feature overtime if neccessary.
Standings: Corleone 2-0-0 +4net 4pts, Ohana/Stormcat 1-0-1 +2 3, Hidden Creek/Shanghai 0-1-1 -3 1, Pink Deco 0-2-0 -3 0.
