The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder
April 10, 2011
On the final day of the Masters Golf Tournament the Master of Polo’s Son showed again that he may be the best Player in the World when he is the Quarterback. It is Gonzalo Pieres Jr who I am talking about. He showed his talent in Santa Barbara a few years ago and he has been on many winning teams with other 10-goaler’s including his brother Facundo. Gonzalo was the lead man in France recently with same the result …. winner. The thing that separates Gonzalo from other 10’s is his uncanny skill to find the Open man and anticipate where to be and this is what was so incredible about his Papa. No matter who he played with he found what they could do good and made it work. This is the difference to me between a good player and a great player.
Most of the Superstars now are incredible with the ball, but they need those workers doing their job (teammates), usually young guns who die on the man or Patrons like King George who can block out a Tank. I saw the finals of the Gold Cup and Andrade, the mighty Brazilian, works hard to set the table and Mark and Nico find a place to be open and guess what? They get the ball quick and on the mallet side and this forces you to cover them and then Gonzalo Pieres hauls a** to the goal himself. If you get him he leaves it for Andrade. I know this happened again today as Zacara needed the workers and Sebe was all alone. Unless someone comes with discipline to stay with the man and die with the man and they have enough horses for two more games and nobody stops them. Valiente may have the players, but they will have to come up to the task as quick as Wed.
So after all my BS it was Audi pounding on Zacara and heading to the semis and there they will meet Valiente and Big Bob, who stopped the run for the Silver of the 4 m’s Mannixs and Mariano’s in a very close one with his own set of big sticks. He has two former 10 goal players Miguel and Nacho, who do have the discipline to do it and they do have a Pieres called Polito, cousin of GP, so this could be a good one. It will be a game of horses and I am not sure who has the four legged soldiers. The other Semis will be between some more Astradas and well only one as Javier is out but being replaced by a very strong Augustine Merlos and they will be taking on the Owls of Lechuza who pack a 10 as well Juan Nero .
We will get the Game report soon as Alex gets done with the party on field 1. As the play by play report is very good and always here soon after the show.
see ya
