It was Nick the Stick (Nicolas Roldan) and his hard- hitting Patron, Scott Devon, drilling Isla Carrol in the Finals of the first 22-Goal Tournament of the year (JOE BARRY Memorial). Joe Barry was was for a long time Polo’s biggest hitter and the Tournament has been named in his memory.
The match was apparently close in the 1st 1/2, but Brandon Phillips and Todd Offen of Catamount went to work in the final 3 and took home the big one.
Out West there was a sudden halt as rain came fast and furious over night and kept it up most of the day. It was a day of only 2 big games to finish the January leagues as only the 12- and the 8-Goal Leagues are undecided.
Vista Santa Rosa and big stick Jofie (Joseph Stuart) smoked thru the 4-goal/ 6 chukker. It was old good-eye back in town, Daniel Fernandez, winning the 16 team, 4-goal/ 4-chukker. He must be good! The fields are a mine field and Fernandez has only 1 eye, so maybe thats the trick. You only look with one. Who knows, but well done!
Over at La Quinta Polo where they do have grass and beautiful fields, its a big finals between Wild Bill Freeman and his Corleone Squad with Silent Chris Maloney bringing in the other 1/2 of the team. Maloney has the Doctor (Gaston Von Wernich) and Wild Bill Freeman has Thunder From Down Under (Fergus Gould). The Final, however, is on hold until Mother Nature says OK.
Feb Leagues @ EDPC seem to be better as a few more brave souls step up. So maybe the rain will bring grass and the people will just try to be Happy. It will liven up the World, I am sure, in Indio , Ca. We need it.
See ya.
