It was a delayed ending and it was a dandy as Casa Blanca and Dudley’s hired guns won the January 8-goal. They just stopped a hard-charging Guti (Mariano Gutierrez) the young Gun of OC Polo playing along with Shelley Geiler and Rick Paicious. It was a fairly close game at times and then Casa Opened up a 3 goal lead, but here came the Reds back as they came within 1 at the final bell. CasaBlanca and the FlYING GALINDOS are the 2008 Jan. 8-Goal Champs. In the 12-Goal January will be decided on Sunday.
Feb. leagues got started early this month. In the 12-goal it was Sir George the Lettuce Man taking a break from his tractor and zooming down the field on his new paint pony. George really likes the word “Pony” as he has several and some are good ponies, but Sir George was a bit out of the early part of the game, but made a huge rally in the second 1/2. They came up short and took an loss while Long Beach took the win. In the other 12-goal game of the day it was the return of the Governor (Pat Nesbitt) and he was leading the charge of 3 players, who together are just a little over his age. They also got wayback in the early chukkers trailing by 9 to 3 in the 4 th, but came back and took the lead in the 6 th, but gave it back after the big climb. High Prairie jumped on a couple of loose balls and took it right back. The boys in the black and white needed some film sessions in this one.
I think the only other 8-goal was Fish Creek showing the Big Macs of McPolo that the real Big Mac (Fred Mannix, Sr.) was finding the goal. Captain Big Mac was drilled 3 big ones in the goal and they started on a winning note and a W for win goes in their record . Sat . at Eldorado, the Club without grass, has lots of action as OC Polo starts Feb. with a game against Fish Creek and the Colorado Cowgirl (Jenny Luttrell) and Cotterel Farms take on a new team called Valiente at high noon. Also at noon is Rocket Robert Kiger and the short 1/2 of the B Boys (Bilo Zarif) line up against Parklane, a team who played in Deauville France last summer. At 2 pm its the Hawks vs. Windsor Capital and Friendly Chevy’s taking on the roar of the Phoneix.
So lots of POLO from coast to coast. La Quinta Polo Club also has two big games today at 12 and 2 PM as they double up and take the day off on Super Bowl Sunday. Back East the Riceman (Shane Rice) is doing very well and played for the title last week in the 22-goal, but did not win. He was there in the finals and they get underway today I believe.
