The Polo Report

… Sad news arrived this week from South Florida. Super vet Mike Gerrard had fallen ill and it turns out very ill. He had a stroke and this is very sad news to almost any polo player who knew him. It is pretty likely if they did not know Gerrard, they probably did not play any important polo in this country during the last 30 years or so.
Gerrard was often called a “Super Vet” because of his ability to fix nearly anything. Sometimes he got in trouble and was wrong, but he never said it was wrong, only that he just made a wrong prognosis and it did not work. About 90% of the time what he did worked and with that chance we always took it because it was often the difference between a W and a L. Really thats what we do try to win.
Gerrard was always expensive, but he also always worked it out and there are very few Pros he did not help. I am sure if he ever had a audit, the polo players were way ahead, but he would always help at anytime from the bottom of the food chain to the gold at the top.
Nobody can say he was not there for them. If they asked and he could get there, he would go. Gerrard was a weekend polo player and he loved the game. He once told me he was a 10 goal player trapped in a 0 goal body. Gerrard was a vet who understood horses and he could make them tick better and smoother most of the time. That is why he was a pros answer, so many times. He was a Genius at coming up with solutions often to solve a problem. Gerrard could turn a blowout into a racing slick often and it would be hard to say how many tournaments he won for some teams over the years. There were so many I don’t think you could not count them in an hour. Gerrard is not a huge guy …probably 5 ‘ 7 ” and 170, but he was big in our eyes. Talk about from Kings to Cowboys … he knew them all.
We send our best. Good Luck MIKEEEE.
I will buy you Lunch at the Nugget not Lucky’s.
GOOD LUCK MR GERRARD
