GENE’S CLEANING/DOS PERROS TAKE FIRST PREZ CUP MATCH

Gene’s Cleaning/Dos Perros closed out the first half with a sizeable lead and held on to defeat SaraBoca and claim the first match of the regional United States Polo Association President’s Cup at Saratoga Polo on Friday. The match had a final score of 9-5.

Most of the first half was a very stingy, low scoring affair with the ball being battled for in heavy traffic. Then, Jube Baez exploded at the end of the third chukker with three unanswered goals to put Gene’s Cleaning/Dos Perros up 5-1 at the half.

Gene’s Cleaning kept the attack steady, with each player on the squad scoring a goal in the second half. SaraBoca also had 4 in the second half, but the four goal margin that ended the first half was intact at the end of regulation.

Baez’ 3 scores in the third chukker and another in the fourth gave him 4 goals on the day, twice as many as any other player. Rick Baum and Tony Vita each had two tallies and Gene Gass added another for the victors.

SaraBoca received 2 markers apiece from Ricky Bostwick and Cesar Jimenez. Diego Ferreira was the only rider able to convert on a penalty shot, giving him a goal as well for the runners-up.

The next match at Saratoga Polo is scheduled for Sunday, July 23rd at 5:30pm. Matches are played every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday until Labor Day weekend. For more information, call 518-584-8108 or visit saratogapolo.com.
