SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Saratoga Polo is hosting one of the most highly anticipated events of the season this weekend with the Whitney Cup Tournament. Matches are at 5:30 on Friday, August 5 and Sunday, August 7th, where Marylou Whitney and members of her family will present to the tournament winners.
Saratoga Polo Association, founded in 1898 by William Collins Whitney, is one of the four oldest polo clubs in the United States. The Whitney Cup at Saratoga Polo is a cherished tradition that celebrates the rich legacy of the Whitney Family’s participation in the “Sport of Kings” in Saratoga Springs.
The Whitney Cup is continuing to be sponsored by Lilly Pulitzer and the Pink Paddock – a Lilly Pulitzer Via Shop. As part of the new tradition, the Clubhouse at Saratoga Polo gets a complete makeover with the signature colors of Lilly Pulitzer with designers “lilly-ifying” the Saratoga Polo clubhouse and surroundings for the weekend.
“We are humbled by how gracious the Whitney Family has been with their time and support each year to honor and preserve the legacy of this polo tradition, and we appreciate their enthusiastic participation in the tournament,” said James Rossi, Managing Partner of the Saratoga Polo Association. “When Mrs. Whitney presents the trophy to the winning team, there is an indescribable historic connection that resonates for all of us who love polo at Whitney Field.”
The Whitney Cup Tournament begins this Friday, August 5th with the finals happening on Sunday August 7th . Gates open at 4pm and the matches begin at 530pm. Saratoga Polo is at 2 Bloomfield Road in Greenfield Center, NY. For tickets and for more information, go to saratogapolo.com.
