One of the most memorable moments of the 3rd round of the Lucchese America Cup happened off the field, as the Military Warriors Support Foundation donated a house to a veteran who had been through more then 30 surgeries to remove shrapnel from combat wounds. Lucchese patron John Muse is a big supporter of the Military Warriors Support Group and after winning his polo game today was on hand to literally present the key to a new house to this brave soldier. It was incredibly heartening to see all eight polo players who had just competed in a hard fought polo game gathering around to shake the hand of the astounded soldier, who was happily carrying the key to his new house.
Lucchese breezed into the first place in their bracket with a 14-10 victory over Grants Farm. Although both teams were assured of a berth in the semifinals, you would not be able to tell by the intensity of the game. Both teams fought hard, but Lucchese found the goal a lot more than the other team, especially Jeff Blake. Blake was red hot, scoring 7 of his team’s 14 goals.
The second game featured Piaget against ERG. Both teams had a chance to advance to the semifinals, with the loser most likely going to the subsidiary, so the game was expected to be close, but ERG jumped out to a 16- 4 halftime lead. Piaget rallied in the 5th and 6th chukker to close the gap but it was too late, and ERG would win 18-11 to secure first place in Bracket II, by virtue of more net goals.
