The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder

Joy To the World of Spreckles.  It just took 4 years and it was just about 4 years ago that Joy Bancroft met Polo. A friend of hers and her husband were here trying horses and Joy being a horse person was willing to pick up a mallet and give it a try. Well she went bad as the former Jumper would say “she liked it” and that was their loss and Polo’s gain. Joy has moved up the ladder quickly, mostly because she has a Husband named Hugh who loves sports and he demands success. Joy has followed it to the T.

Well Sunday was her day as her Star Meadows Team were just the way she wanted them to be … tough, close and exciting. They are the 2011 champs of the 2011 Spreckles Cup, the biggest one in California this month.  This tournament’s trophy is close to if not the oldest trophy played for in California. Joy’s team is called STAR MEADOWS not sure where it comes from, but it does not matter.  There were 4 stars on Sunday, 2 ladies and that is unusual as well.  They were led by an old feller named Graham Bray.  He also won the Spreckles back in 1994. His son Jesse must have been 2 years old back then,  but he was the star of this game. Jesse is one of the top young guns in the Country at 3 goals and climbing fast.  He just finished High School. He was 100% on penalties I hear and that alone usually wins games and would have won all of them in the Pacific Coast Open this year, but was not even close. They went through a long month to reach the finals and like Hanalei Bay, the team Patron Ron Bonaguidi, who has been here before,  knew the pressure was on with a huge crowd, TV, planes, choppers and a lot of partying people.  The famous Fast–etta must have felt good about their chances. He has several of these trophies, but it was not to be as they were tied at ½ time, but Star Meadows seemed to be in control most of the second ½ as Jesse continued to make penalty shots and the hard-riding Jessica Bailey continued to slam the back door and anyone near it.  Joy doing a good job on “Bones” (aka Ron Bonaguidi)  it was the middle to do the work and with Alvaro not able to handle Jesse it was Star Meadows all the way in a tight, but well fought last 1/2.  When the last whistle blew it was STARM EADOWS with the Silver. Mr. Spreckles must have been a Ladies man as some very big Spreckles Cups have lady Patrons on it and similar stories. Lovely Lisa Bosstick is on it several times and I think Susan Figi also has her name on it.WELL DONE SAN DIEGO POLO CLUB IT WAS A BLAST:

Some very sad news tonight was the passing of Steve Jobs of Apple might be the most known name since Kennedy in the World and probably better known in today’s youth than anyone including well anyone. I will not write a name I was going to. He was only 56 years old and more people know Apple than they know the name of their countries leaders I am sure.

SEE YA
