A Unique Winter Equestrian Event in Aspen, CO
Roaring Fork Polo Club
The 12th Annual USPA World Snow Polo Championship gallops into Aspen, Colorado on December 17-18th. This year’s event will take place in beautiful Rio Grande Park.
Snow polo is a modified version of polo. Games are played on a snow packed arena surrounded by fencing to keep the ball in play. The event will consist of a two day elimination tournament, where five teams composed of top rated polo players from around the world compete for the coveted title. Team Sponsors for 2011 are Piaget, the Swiss luxury watchmaker; USPA, the governing body of the United States Polo Association; Ciroc, ultra premium vodka imported by Diageo from France; Audi; and KIG, international investment group. Nacho Figueras, the face of Ralph Lauren’s Black Label line and Nicolas Roldan, Piaget’s spokesman are just two of the players slated to compete.
Several of Aspen’s top hotels are offering discounted rates for the event: Hotel Jerome, Limelight Lodge, Little Nell and the Molly Gibson. Getting to Aspen is relatively easy as most of the major airlines offer daily scheduled flights to Aspen. Eagle/Vail airport is another alternative. You can also fly to Denver International and rent a car for a scenic drive through the mountains.
There will be celebrity studded evening parties to attend as well as fabulous restaurants and fine shops to sample. Christmas shopping is of course a must along with world class skiing. The World Snow polo website (www.worldsnowpolo.com) has further information about the sport of snow polo and its’ rich history along with videos.
