DOWN TO THE FINAL EIGHT – After thirteen days, plus another 3 weeks before in the Gold Cup, its down to 8 teams left. There are no more chances because if you lose you’re out. That’s it. Wednesday was the day of elimination as only 5 would stand and join in the quarter finals. There was plenty of talk about it and sportsmanship. There were many ways to make it to this level, but they need to focus also on saving the horses for the final few games in this very competitive tournament of 26 goals.
The handicap committee see some players will need to be lowered. The results of this tournament has made for some very lopsided games. The big prize on Wed. was to get to the #4 position therefore avoiding the 3 undefeated teams already in due to their records. The big chance came in game 1 between Zacara and Audi. Both of these teams have two lineups since opening the tournament. Tom Biddle was replaced by Pelon Escapite and Juan Bollini was replaced by Santiago Chavanne changing the format of these teams to another style . . . run and gun and they did. The lead changed often, but it was the Bullet from Britain and the captain of Zacara showing the big boys he is in town with a gutsy run at goal for the winning goal to go in at 9 to 8 and with the win securing the # 4 position.
Game 2 was just a match now as there was no # 4 place to go and the game was won by Pony Express by one over Black Watch. Game 3 promised to be a war as the loser was out and in the Hall of fame. It was a battle of Argentina vs. Isla Carroll, as John Goodman was the only amateur on the field and White Birch was 4 Argentine pros, two being winners of the Argentine Open. Battle they did with White Birch often up to see the hot stick of Superstar Facundo Pieres come blasting back and reaching the goal despite 4 defenders. In the end, 4 pros won in the last 35 seconds to eliminate Isla Carroll.
This is the way it goes from here on Sat. It will be the Seniors with a Kid named Will, head man of Skeeterville, taking on Mr. Daniels and Pony Express. Pony Express has “Nick the Stick” (Nick Roldan) and Mountain Man Magrini. It should be interesting. The seniors are Owen Rinehart and he is really blowing down the field. Skeeterville also has a Snowman (Adam Snow) and the Bald Eagle Julio Arellano in front of him. This game will be at 3 p.m. At high noon its Cambiaso and the defending champs Crab Orchard with Mr. Jeff Blake leading the charge. They meet a rebuilt auto called Audi. Then Sunday at high Noon the British Bullet (Lyndon Lea) and his Zacara face off with White Birch. The winner of this game takes on the last champs here (Los Monjitas, winners of the Gold Gup) and the famous Astrada Brothers or at least 3 of them. They will be gunning for another superstar named Pablo MacDonough, who is a speed demon. He is teamed up with Neil Hirsch and his Black Watch squad. So if your looking for green fields, fast ladies and beautiful horses, then Florida is the place to be. See ya. – Crowder.
