The 3rd annual Copa Giuliana was held the week of January 23 – 28. Ladies from California, Texas, Calgary and Colorado came to the beautiful Pacific Ocean resort to enjoy polo as well as the private Mexican resort of Careyes. Practice games were held during the week so that everyone could become acquainted with their horses and activities including boat rides, fishing and enjoying the sunshine.
The finals brought Team Houston – Kristy Waters-Outhier, Rebeccas Bollenbach, Jessica Schneider and Jim Giebeler against Team Careyes – Susan Stovall who replaced Lynni Hutton as she was unable to stay through the tournament, Julie Roenisch, Kate Weber and Giorgio Brignone. Hard fought and low scoring – Careyes were the winners – 4 to 3. Kristy Outhier lead the Houston team in goal scoring – while Kate Weber led the Careyes team. Outhier was named MVP. Everyone reported that they had a great time and planning to return for next years Copa Giuliana.
